Our society is privileged to host numerous artists. There are tons of creative works churned out courtesy of the creative industry. It is art that entertains and educates the society in the best ways of life while correcting and addressing societal ills. On the other hand, art is a multi-billion-dollar industry that has the potential of rewarding artists financially extending them freedom to live a fulfilled life. The double-edged sword that is art is unfortunately minimally supported by the government as well as the private sector. The trend is exploitation of talent for meagre earnings during political rallies before the industry players being thrown under the bus until the subsequent elections: a whole 5-year cycle.
More so, Africa is rich in culture. There are clearly defined seasons matched with events to mark important occasions. The society has for a long time stood on the foundation of traditionally inspired morality. African culture has consistently guided its people in leading most respectful and fulfilling lives. It has helped celebrate the upright, rectify the wrong doers and severely punish the undeserving in an effort to maintain a sober and just community.
Apparently, this beautiful existence might be coming to a forceful halt. The once celebrated arts and culture have been shunned by being labelled as backward and uncivilized. This has sent the African society into an immorality frenzy creating huge confusion to societal leaders on the best means to salvage the situation.
The HVN seeks to play a role in restoring the glory of African arts and culture by onboarding Sanaa Culture Arts Association (SCAA).
SCAA is an art-based association of young artists and arts enthusiasts who have come together to make arts commercially viable. The association has been registered in Kenya under the Micro and Small Enterprises Act of 2012.
Through the Arts association, Members of SCAA aim to captivate an Arts culture, as a means for social economic empowerment for themselves and in their local communities. SCAA brings together already established artists and art-based enterprises particularly in Meru County where its operations began. Its goal is to structure a market-oriented framework where local artists can formalize their operations, access market and mutually mobilize support in the view to take advantage of prospects of an arts-based economy.
Homegrown Arts and Culture Promotion:
HVN, in collaboration under its members’ founded Sanaa Culture Arts Association (SCAA), supports local artists and cultural practitioners to reclaim, preserve, and commercialize African arts and traditions. This initiative not only strengthens cultural identity but also seeks to build a vibrant, inclusive creative economy.
Through targeted training, community mobilization, and strategic partnerships, HVN fosters a development model where communities take pride in who they are, what they have, and what they can become. HVN invites like-minded individuals and institutions to join the movement in empowering local communities across Kenya—and eventually Africa—to rediscover their roots and rise through homegrown innovation.
Homegrown Volunteer Network (HVN) is a grassroots-driven Community-Based Organization anchored in the Homegrown Development Ideology—a philosophy that promotes the use of locally crafted solutions, indigenous knowledge, and cultural values to address development challenges within communities.
At HVN, we believe that transformation begins from within. We aim to inspire mindset change, cultivate self-reliance, and promote community-driven development by mobilizing a network of volunteers who champion homegrown solutions. These volunteers work with communities to identify local endowments, enhance awareness of indigenous capacities, and develop sustainable innovations that reflect the community’s unique identity and potential.
Our objectives
- To propagate the Homegrown Development Ideology within local communities
- To recruit and manage networks of community-based influencers who on volunteer basis participate in the endowment analysis of the locale, help communities to take pride of their uniqueness’s and craft homogeneous homegrown innovations that have the potential for sustainable wealth creation
- To conduct community level outreaches for mindset change, sharing of best practices and successful homegrown approaches for growth and development
- To mobilize partnerships and stakeholder engagement to establish sustainable homegrown solutions in building local potentials and promote self-reliance
